SCAQ is pleased to share positive news for the North Queensland strata sector as there has been an excellent response to the recent Strata Resilience Program grant round, with many bodies corporate in the region successfully securing funding. This is a significant win for our members and highlights the value of continued advocacy for strata communities in cyclone-prone areas.
The program, jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments and administered by the Department of Housing and Public Works, provides grants covering 75% of the cost of eligible cyclone resilience works, up to $15,000 per residential tenancy and up to $150,000 per body corporate.
Eligible works include:
Full roof replacements and tie-down upgrades
Cyclone-rated window screens or shutters
Solid core external door upgrades
Wind-rated garage door replacements
Installation of compliant gutter overflows
Replacement of old-style louvres
Development of Cyclone Preparedness Plans
To be eligible, bodies corporate must have participated in the Strata Title Inspection Program conducted by James Cook University’s Cyclone Testing Station and be located within 100km of the coastline from Rockhampton to the Torres Strait.
This outcome demonstrates not only the importance of investing in cyclone resilience, but also the commitment of North Queensland’s strata communities to safeguarding residents and improving asset protection. It is also a clear reflection of SCAQ’s ongoing work to ensure the interests of regional members are heard and addressed.
We encourage any schemes yet to apply to review the program details and consider lodging an application. Full information, including the application process and contractor requirements, can be found at: www.qld.gov.au/strataresilienceprogram
Let’s continue building momentum in strengthening the resilience of our communities across North Queensland.
