A personal Reflection

By Andrew Davidson, President SCAQ

As I write my final report as State President, I do so with immense pride and gratitude. These past years have been a defining chapter in SCAQ’s story — a period where we found our voice, defined our purpose, and set a new standard for professionalism in the strata sector.

This has never been just a role for me; it has been a privilege. To lead an organisation built on passion, courage, and commitment is a rare opportunity. To do so alongside such remarkable people has been a gift.

Steady Leadership in a Sector Finding Its Strength

When I began my tenure, we set a clear direction: to build credibility and capability in equal measure. We knew that for strata to thrive, we had to move beyond being seen as administrators and be recognised as leaders in community, governance, and resilience.

Through sound advocacy, strong relationships, and clear values, we have done exactly that. SCAQ has become a trusted voice to government, an influential participant in policy, and a respected professional body within the property sector.

Our work has always been grounded in purpose. Whether navigating major reform, supporting members through weather crises, or strengthening education standards, we’ve focused on substance over noise — a philosophy that has earned us not just attention, but respect.

Our Collective Achievements

Together, we’ve built more than an organisation — we’ve built momentum. We’ve delivered results that will shape the future of strata for years to come:

  • Seller Disclosure: We turned reform into progress through evidence, professionalism, and persistence.

  • Regulatory Reform: We’ve established a pathway to a regulated, respected profession.

  • Professional Education: Our programs continue to set the bar for capability and ethical leadership.

  • Community and Connection: From QStrata to WiSE, from Awards Night to Charity Race Day, our events have embodied professionalism with heart.

Each initiative tells the same story: that our sector is ready for the future and that Queensland is leading the way.

Governance for the Future

One of the most significant advancements during my tenure has been the modernisation of SCAQ’s governance. Our Board has worked collectively to improve standards, strengthen accountability, and enhance transparency so that our Association is well positioned for growth.

Key improvements have included clearer separation between governance and operational roles, improved risk and strategic oversight functions, and a more robust approach to Board planning and performance. We have refreshed committee structures, so they are focused, empowered, and aligned with the needs of our members. We have embedded a culture where respectful debate and evidence-based decision making are the norm.

These governance reforms mean SCAQ now operates with contemporary, professional structures that reflect the scale and significance of the strata sector in Queensland. The Association is now better equipped to steward the long term interests of our members and navigate future policy, economic, and environmental challenges with confidence.

A Sector of People and Purpose

What makes this community special is not its policies or plans, but its people. I have seen first-hand the commitment, empathy, and intelligence of our members. You are problem solvers, community builders, and custodians of people’s homes and livelihoods.

In times of crisis, particularly following the severe weather events of recent years, our members have stood tall. Quietly, efficiently, and compassionately proving that strata managers are at the very centre of community resilience in Queensland.

The Power of Partnership

None of this happens in isolation. To my fellow Board Directors: thank you for your wisdom, integrity, and unwavering commitment to good governance. It has been an honour to serve alongside you.

To our committees and working groups: your contribution is the lifeblood of this Association. Your generosity of spirit and depth of expertise have driven real change.

To our partners: thank you for believing in our mission and standing with us as we’ve redefined value and impact together.

And to our General Manager, Laura Bos, and her exceptional team: your leadership, drive, and creativity have been the catalyst for SCAQ’s transformation. From regulatory reform to the birth of QStrata, WiSE, and StrataWeek — your vision has re-energised this Association. Our future is strong because of the culture you have built.

Looking Ahead

While this may be my final year as President, it is not goodbye. I will continue to be a passionate advocate for our sector and for the people who give it life. Leadership is, after all, about leaving things better than you found them — and ensuring those who follow have the confidence and capacity to go further still.

SCAQ stands ready for its next chapter: a future defined by collaboration, regulation, and respect. I am confident that under new leadership, this Association will continue to shine a light on what excellence in strata truly looks like.

A Final Reflection

The question we have often asked ourselves is, Who do we serve? The answer has always been clear: we serve people. People who live, work, and care in strata. People who believe in community, fairness, and integrity.

As I hand over the presidency, I do so with enormous gratitude, for the trust you placed in me, the work we achieved together, and the friendships that will endure well beyond any title.

This is not a farewell; it is simply the turning of a page. SCAQ’s story continues — stronger, wiser, and more connected than ever.
